ALISON APLIN – THE ARTIST

These works are ‘art for sale’ pieces. The abstract art depicted on this page are an example of Alison’s bold style. They are all very different, many with a common thread of being colourful. Alison likes geometric designs which also feature regularly in her work, but floeing works are becoming more regular.

Some of her work is deliberately clumsy; imperfect, as she believes that nothing in life is perfect. This makes her work earthy; organic even.

As a garden designer, Alison is very aware of the importance of juxtaposition of plants. This is followed through in her art works, where texture, colour, balance and design are all critically important in her abstract work.

Abstract art is not ‘about nothing’. At its basis it is about form, colour, line, texture, pattern, composition and process. These are the formal qualities of artwork, because they describe what the art looks like and how it is created. Abstract art is an exploration of these formal qualities, some of which Alison quite readily challenges in her work.

Since she is a multi-award winning garden designer, people would automatically assume that Alison’s work would be landscapes. Many have asked about this. But Alison’s landscape paintings are quite contemporary.

Alison has admired the work of many contemporary and abstract artists and enjoys visits to galleries and exhibitions when time allows. She has come to the realm of artist late in life, but doesn’t let this daunt her. She works with vigour as time allows, but finds this all too infrequent.
